Quit Smoking Tips
Saturday, September 20th, 2008This website contains quit smoking tips. Smoking is a drain on your wallet and your energy, even your health suffers. Medical problems often plague smokers. For instance, lung cancer is closely related to smoking. Other potential impacts of smoking may include discolored teeth, added wrinkles, foul smelling breath, and not having any energy to do anything. What most smokers do not know is it is possible to stop smoking using natural means.
You do need willpower to become a nonsmoker. However, you have a powerful technique at your disposal which you can use to your benefit. The first quit smoking tip is – self talk. Do not dismiss this technique because it is so powerful. The saying you can talk yourself in anything” is extremely true. For example, have you ever talked yourself into being ill. Maybe, you woke up with a slight headache, by the time you have told a few people this, you definitely feel worse.
As soon as you become aware that you are thinking negative thoughts above giving up smoking or feeling anxiety, immediately turn it around. Say with confidence, "Today is going to be a GREAT day! I have officially quit smoking and I feel better already. (take a deep breath) Not smoking is actually easier than I thought it was going to be. I’ve had a few cravings, but nothing that I can’t handle". Affirm again and again how strong you are and keep your thoughts positive.
For serious smokers, smoking is more than a habit. It’s an addiction. Addictions cause nerve pathways in the brain to be constantly and repeatedly stimulated. Because these pathways have become familiar, it is hard to switch to a new pathway. Quitting is all about stopping the use of the old nerve pathways and replacing them with new pathways. Willpower is the only way to get this done. If you are serious about quitting, you can override years of bad habits and create new nerve pathways in your brain.
Another quit smoking tips is to distract yourself. This, of course is because nicotine withdrawal can be quite uncomfortable. To control the emotional cravings and anxiety nicotine withdrawal can cause, find someone to provide support or engage in an activity that requires concentration. One way to control cravings is to seek distractions, something to do other than smoke. Things like reading an engrossing novel or going to the theater can take your mind off the cravings. Some people feel awkward without a cigarette in their mouth and chew gum while quitting smoking to quell the cravings. Others meditate or take long walks. It does not matter what you do, as long as it isn’t smoking again. It doesn’t have to hard to stop smoking naturally.
Also try to avoid social activities which could draw you into smoking again. Drink plenty of water and do regular exercise. This will keep your mind focussed and help you to quit smoking for good. Within the pages of this website I will be posting quit smoking tips, so you can continue on your path to health.
